Sara Teasdale

Sara Teasdale
1918年 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry 得主

四月之死 I Shall Not Care: (李敖譯)

When I am dead and over me bright April / Shakes out her rain-drenched hair, / Tho' you should lean above me broken-hearted, / I shall not care.

I shall have peace, as leafy trees are peaceful / When rain bends down the bough, / And I shall be more silent and cold-hearted / Than you are now.

Epitaph:

Serene descent, as a red leaf's descending / When there is neither wind nor noise of rain, / But only autumn air and the unending / Drawing of all things to the earth again.

So be it, let the snow fall deep and cover / All that was drunken once with light and air. / The earth will not regret her tireless lover, / Nor he awake to know she does not care.

關不住了 Over The Roofs, IV: (胡適譯)

時時從屋頂上吹來;

I said, ``I have shut my heart
As one shuts an open door,
That Love may starve therein
And trouble me no more.''

But over the roofs there came
The wet new wind of May,
And a tune blew up from the curb
Where the street-pianos play.

My room was white with the sun
And Love cried out to me,
``I am strong, I will break your heart
Unless you set me free.''
