ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES

We make use of electricity everyday. Most of home appliances today are powered by electricity.

When a wire conducts electricity, it gets hot. This explains how electrical heaters and irons work. If the wire gets hot enough, it glows too. Can you think of any applications of this?

A wire also acts like a magnet when electricity passes through it. If you coil the wire around an iron nail, it can pull up iron clips and turn a compass needle! Electric cranes, bells, and motors all make use of this idea to work.


ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Electricity is useful, but it is dangerous too. Be careful when you use electrical appliances. If you don't follow the safety rules, you may get an electric shock, or even cause a fire.
