老殘

老殘遊記, 第七回

It is said that Mr Decadent and Shen Tung-chao were discussng the Governor and how it was just because he was talented and wanted quick promotion that he comitted so many acts of injustice, then they both sighed.

話說老殘與申東造議論玉賢正為有才，急於做官。所以喪天害理，至於如此，彼此嘆息一會。

Mr Shen said, `Yesterday I said I had something important to discuss with you in private, and it is about this very thing.

東造道：「正是。我昨日說有要事與先生密商，就是為此。

You consider , sir, what a tyrant this man is, and I have the misfortune to be under him. To work according to his wishes would be more than I could endure, but I see no goo means of doing otherwise.

先生想，此公殘忍至於此極。兄弟不幸，偏又在他屬下。依他做，實在不忍；不依他做，又實無良法。

Now you are rich in experience, you have ``tasted all dangers and difficuities and know the people's heart'', so you must have some good solution which I beg you to divulge.'

先生閱歷最多，所謂『險阻艱難，備嘗之矣；民之情偽，盡知之矣』，必有良策，願有以教我！」

Mr Shen said, 東造道：
`Yesterday I said 正是。我昨日說
I had something important 有要事
to discuss with you in private, 與先生密商
and it is about this very thing. 就是為此

You consider , sir, 先生想
what a tyrant this man is, 此公殘忍至於此極
and I have the misfortune 兄弟不幸
to be under him. 偏又在他屬下
